Atlanta area Software company has an exciting opening for a Development Engineer to design, develop, customize, test, and maintain IBM based system software utility products. A strong technical programming background is required; applicants with a proven history of system software design and development skills will be given preference. Ability to become part of a team and follow extreme programming techniques is critical to an applicant’s success. Prefer applicants with College education and 10 to 15 years experience in IBM mainframe field.
Technical Skills Required
Programming Languages: C, C++, Assembler (Experience with OO a plus)
Databases: VSAM, DB2, IMS, and Other ISV databases
Operating Systems: z/OS, z/VSE, and z/VM (Will train on OS if missing z/OS or z/VSE)
Tools / Utilities: JCL, RACF, TSO/ISPF, IBM Utilities, Source Control
Hardware: zSeries, Intel, and PowerPC (zSeries required)
Script/Tag languages: SOAP, XML, WSDL, REXX, LUA, XSD, XSLT
Software Products: TCPIP, CICS/TS, IMS, MQ, WebSphere
Preference to applicants with zSeries certifications, other certifications a plus.
Job Requirements:
•Design, develop and maintain software products targeting z/OS, and z/VSE
•Knowledge of various TCPIP programming protocols (HTTP, FTP, Telnet, etc)
•Multi-Threaded programming techniques and concepts
•Experience with Web Service programming techniques and concepts
•Strong knowledge of tag languages based on XML concepts
•Ability to debug complex software interactions with multiple environments
•Train and Support Sales and Support Engineers on software products
•Strong administrative and communication skills
•Knowledge of JCL, IBM utilities and product installation concepts
•Understanding of CICS, IMS, MQ, TCPIP and software installation concepts
•Basic understanding of automation concepts and security software
•Able to travel to customer sites or attend training classes
Roles & Responsibilities:
•Must be capable to create innovative software applications
•Maintain communications with Project Managers for software requirements
•Maintain appropriate hardware and media capacity levels and forecast future capacity requirements
•Implement product enhancements and changes following existing standards
•Provide team leadership and follow other team leadership as required
•Assist in building product documentation and provide assistance on software installation requirements
•Maintain communications with Sales and Support Engineers for training on new functionality and provide technical support
